Set up instruments and software
Define geometry, display mode, warm-up and signal path. Check device settings and the software functions relevant to the task.
For post-production, display labs and quality assurance
Enable your team to measure displays, interpret the results and verify calibration work. You practise instrument setup, software operation and suitable test sequences using your current or planned equipment. The training connects each step with its purpose, so your team can recognise setup errors and repeat the agreed procedure.

Learn to distinguish a setup error from a real display difference. You examine how alignment, test signals and instrument settings affect the reading, then practise correction and verification. Working notes and agreed checks help your team repeat the procedure rather than rely on a plausible-looking number.
Practise checking measurement conditions and display behaviour before applying corrections. You can interpret unexpected readings in their technical context.
Your team works through a procedure connecting instrument, signal source and software. Exercises use your current or planned environment.
Learn to check the result again under documented conditions. Repeat measurements and assessment form part of the training.
Define geometry, display mode, warm-up and signal path. Check device settings and the software functions relevant to the task.
Work through luminance, colour and transfer-function examples. Understand repeatability, suitable reference measurements and common setup errors.
Compare the result against the agreed target. Practise control measurements, recognise failed runs and record the conditions needed to repeat the procedure.
The programme and exercises are agreed around your displays, equipment and prior knowledge. Training in measurement practice can be combined with calibration or an automation pilot under a separately defined scope.
From FF Pictures’ practice
For our calibration and measurement work, we use high-end spectrometers and high-end colorimeters. Our current equipment includes Admesy Hera, Minolta CA-410 and Admesy PCM2X-271. We are also familiar with numerous other measuring instruments. The suitable combination depends on the display and task. Florian Friedrich teaches BET’s display-technology seminar.
Measurement example.
The measured luminance of an HDR white patch changes between two runs.
We compare patch size, background, display duration and preceding images. These conditions can affect the display’s luminance control.
Conditions are defined and checked for repeatability before deriving a correction from the readings.
Deliverables for your project
These deliverables are tailored to your task before work starts:
We establish the display model and firmware, instruments, signal source and software. Target standard, viewing conditions and the system’s actual capabilities shape the training.
Device controls or LUTs are covered where appropriate for the specific setup. A separate verification measurement follows: what improved, what remains limited, and under which conditions does the result apply?
Yes. Training is shaped around your current or planned environment. Your team practises measurement and verification using the functions suited to those tasks. We establish in advance what your software supports and adapt the exercises so that you can use the learning in your own workflow.
Yes. We can calibrate your displays or train your team to do the work. The two can be combined, for example through a calibration session with hands-on guidance and documented verification steps. Together, we choose the support that fits your tasks.
Describe the team’s roles and prior knowledge, display technologies, instruments and software. Include a typical task or inconsistent result so that the exercises can address your actual work.
Include the team’s experience, display technologies, measuring instruments, software and learning goals. We agree the scope and technical approach with you.
