Luminance, colour and EOTF
Define the signal, operating mode, patch geometry and measurement conditions before interpreting luminance, colour or the electro-optical transfer function.
For display labs, development and quality assurance
Build a display measurement workflow your development or quality-assurance team can use. We help you select hardware and software, connect signal generation, measurement and analysis, and automate suitable repeat tasks. Your existing equipment informs the plan; your team receives a practical introduction to the agreed procedure.

Before you invest in a larger setup, test a defined measurement task with a pilot. We examine your instruments, available interfaces and analysis requirements together. You can then decide which equipment is needed, which steps can be automated and which manual checks should remain in the procedure.
Define test states and result formats consistently. Suitable repeat steps can be automated while necessary manual checks remain in place.
We assess interfaces and coordinate signal output with measurement timing. Your devices are configured as a connected procedure for the agreed task.
Conditions, software versions and failed runs are recorded with the results. Your team can compare and repeat measurement series under explicit conditions.
Start with the property you need to measure, the display technology, luminance range, required timing and available budget. We assess existing equipment before proposing additions. A useful setup includes the signal source and analysis software as well as the measuring instrument.
A spectroradiometer provides spectral information; a tristimulus colorimeter is useful for suitable colour and luminance measurements, including repeated sequences. Selection depends on the display spectrum, required accuracy, sensitivity, measurement geometry and speed. Profiling a colorimeter against a suitable reference may be part of the workflow. Spatial uniformity or fast temporal behaviour can require a different measurement approach.
We compare software against the actual instruments, drivers, interfaces, data exports and intended analysis. This may involve an existing calibration package, manufacturer software or agreed custom components. Licences, compatibility and ongoing operation are part of the decision. FF Pictures also offers Admesy instruments; that commercial relationship is considered openly when discussing equipment.
Define the signal, operating mode, patch geometry and measurement conditions before interpreting luminance, colour or the electro-optical transfer function.
Patch size, background, metadata and display duration can affect HDR results. We plan sequences that address the behaviour you want to investigate.
Record display settings, signal chain, measurement geometry, software versions and failed runs. Repeated measurements help assess variation and changes.
We connect pattern output, device control, settling times, acquisition and logging in a limited pilot. We check the interfaces and timing on the actual equipment before expanding the sequence. A successful command alone does not show that the display was measured in the intended state.
Depending on the agreed task, the workflow can include repeated runs, labelled data exports, plots or a report format. Manual checks remain useful where alignment, interpretation or unavailable interfaces require them. We document error handling and the conditions needed to repeat the procedure.
Turn a measurement task into a documented working procedure. We agree the devices under test, measurement quantities, signal conditions and interfaces before equipment is purchased or larger test sequences are automated. The scope can range from an existing workstation to the introduction of several agreed measurement procedures.
We review your investigation goals, existing instruments, signal sources, software and data formats. This informs a reasoned equipment selection and the additions needed for your setup.
A representative measurement sequence checks signal output, timing, data acquisition and analysis. Control measurements and repeated runs establish which steps work reliably and where manual intervention is still needed.
Your team receives the agreed settings, operating procedures and output formats. Training uses the actual setup; additional interfaces, maintenance and further measurement sequences require an agreed scope.
From FF Pictures’ practice
In an HDR-metrology collaboration with Admesy, FF Pictures integrated the Prometheus colorimeter with InnoPQ. Different patches and moving backgrounds are timed with measurements to investigate time-dependent display behaviour. FF Pictures also offers Admesy instruments; equipment selection is discussed against your task.
Measurement example.
A defined sequence of backgrounds and patches is output. Patch size and display duration form part of the test.
Instrument control starts measurement in the defined time window and records failed or incomplete runs as well.
Repeated runs are compared under the same conditions. The measurement series is expanded after pilot verification.
Deliverables for your project
These deliverables are tailored to your task before work starts:
We first establish the property you need to assess and the existing instruments, signal sources, interfaces and software. Available APIs or SDKs and their limits are checked before defining the automation concept.
Depending on scope, outputs include configuration, documented procedures, result formats or agreed software components. Source code, usage rights, licences, maintenance and extensions are explicitly defined.
We review the measurement goal, existing equipment and interfaces. You receive guidance on a suitable setup and the next checks.
We connect signal generation, measurement and analysis for an agreed task and verify the procedure. The result is traceable measurement series under documented conditions.
We document the verified setup, analysis and control checks, then introduce your team to the agreed components in practice.
We agree the scope and deliverables for your task. You can start with a single check.
We assess your instruments, interfaces, drivers and SDKs using a representative measurement task. You learn which steps can be automated reliably and where a manual check remains useful. Usage terms and software compatibility are included before we recommend an extension or expand the procedure.
We discuss how the setup will be supported after handover. Operation, maintenance, firmware or SDK changes and additional measurement sequences can be planned around your needs. The proposal sets out scope and responsibilities so that you can assess the ongoing support.
Yes, it is the starting point for the assessment. We check the measurement goal, instrument condition, interfaces and software compatibility before recommending changes.
Yes. Training can cover instrument setup, test signals, measurement sequences, data interpretation and verification using the agreed environment. We match the scope to your team’s role and prior knowledge.
Measurement characterises behaviour under defined conditions. Calibration adjusts the display towards a target and verifies the result. The appropriate service depends on whether you need to understand behaviour, correct it or build a repeatable lab procedure.
Include the display technology, measurement goal, instruments, software and intended result format. We agree the scope and technical approach with you.
